Chilli Lovers Fair

Come down to Albert Square on the opening weekend of the Festival and prove yourself in Manchester’s second annual Chilli Eating Contest (6.30pm). The competition will be held as part of the Manchester Chilli Lovers Fair, which sees the UK’s finest chilli purveyors descending on the city. This being the national capital of curry and red-hot Szechuan cuisine, growers and producers have been experimenting to bring the passionate Manchester public all sorts of crazy chilli concoctions.

From Edible Ornamentals’ chilli beer to the One Stop Hot Shop’s chilli toffee, you’re certain to find something to get your taste buds going. Check out Cha Cha Chilli’s chilli sauce and salsa, the Chilli Pepper Company’s chilli seeds, Rico Picante chilli sauce and Trees Can’t Dance’s flaming marinades. And for those who like their condiments hot and spicy, Holly and the Ivy has plenty in store with chilli oils, vinegars and chutneys galore.

By day there'lll be chilli market, tastings and demos, and by night the Chilli Eating Contest commencing at 6.30pm, followed by a hot evening of music courtesy of top notch salsa band, Cubavida and chilli-inspired cocktails.
