The MFDF Awards Shortlists Are Soon To Be Announced!
The MFDF Awards are the highest profile in the region - hotly anticipated by the industry, and the best-known and regarded amongst a consumer audience - they continue to provide a benchmark of excellence and quality.
The MFDF Award Shortlists comprise of 6 nominees in each category and are curated by the MFDF Judging Panel. In case you didn't already know, the panel is made up of the region's leading food writers and experts. Whilst their decisions are final and you don't have to put yourself forward to be nominated, we'd like to invite your business to tell the judges why you think you should be in the shortlist and for what category.
Its a chance to highlight yourselves to the panel and tell them what category you think you're leading the way in!
Award Categories
The categories for the awards this year are as follows:
Restaurant of the Year 2013.
Aiming to recognise the best dining establishments in Manchester of 2013. This category refers to venues visited primarily for a full dining experience featuring table service, alcohol license etc. LAST YEAR'S WINNER: AUMBRY, PRESTWICH. DATE ELIGIBILITY: ESTABLISHMENTS OPEN BEFORE THE 1st APRIL 2013.
Chef of the Year 2013
Aiming to recognise the most talented and outstanding work of chefs cooking in Greater Manchester kitchens - his or her skill, menu, commitment and contribution to the dining scene. LAST YEAR'S WINNER: ANDREW NUTTER, NUTTERS. DATE ELIGIBILITY: MUST HAVE BEEN WORKING IN THE SAME RESTAURANT FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS BEFORE APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED.
Pub of the Year 2013.
Recognising the finest pubs in the region, focusing on quality and range of ales/beers and atmosphere. LAST YEAR'S WINNER: PORT STREET BEER HOUSE, MANCHESTER. DATE ELIGIBILITY: ESTABLISHMENTS OPEN BEFORE THE 1st APRIL 2013.
Food Pub of the Year 2013
Recognising our region’s ‘gastro pubs’ - a chance for ‘pub restaurants’ to be recognised in their own category. All public houses eligible as long as they consider themselves a food pub, but they are not eligible for shortlisting in both. LAST YEAR'S WINNER: SHOULDER OF MUTTON, HOLCOMBE VILLAGE. DATE ELIGIBILITY: ESTABLISHMENTS OPEN BEFORE THE 1st APRIL 2013.
Bar of the Year 2013
Recognising the best drinking venues in the region that aren’t considered ‘pubs’. There has been debate in the past as to what differentiates bars from pubs - you can put yourself forward for whatever you consider your business to be! LAST YEAR'S WINNER: LIARS CLUB, MANCHESTER. DATE ELIGIBILITY: ESTABLISHMENTS OPEN BEFORE THE 1st APRIL 2013.
Newcomer of the Year
Recognising the best new restaurants to open in Manchester since the last MFDF Gala Dinner and Awards. LAST YEAR'S WINNER: BAKERIE AND BAKERIE TASTING STORE. DATE ELIGIBILITY: ESTABLISHMENTS OPEN BETWEEN THE 1ST JULY 2012 UNTIL 1ST JULY 2013
Coffee Bar or Tea Shop of the Year 2013
Recognising the best coffee bars and teashops in the region. This category has been simplified to recognise the quality of venues that are visited primarily for tea and coffee. LAST YEAR'S WINNER: NORTH TEA POWER, MANCHESTER. DATE ELIGIBILITY: ESTABLISHMENTS OPEN BEFORE THE 1st APRIL 2013.
Cheap Eats Venue Of The Year 2013
This award replaces our Casual Dining category. Recognizing the best venues that are visited for a high value, casual eating experience. Eligible venues must be able to demonstrate that customers are able to order a substantial main course and a drink for £10 or under. LAST YEAR'S WINNER: TEACUP, MANCHESTER. DATE ELIGIBILITY: ESTABLISHMENTS OPEN BEFORE THE 1st APRIL 2013.
Best Food And Drink Retailer 2013
This year the Best Food and Drink Retailer category will be searching the whole region for the best purveyors of food and drink ‘to go’ and be involving the general public in the process from the off - not shortlist will be announced by the judges. We want to explore more food and drink gems across the whole of Greater Manchester including stall holders and producers. More details to be announced soon! LAST YEAR’S WINNER: BOOTHS, MEDIA CITY
The Howard And Ruth Award For Outstanding Achievement.
Recognising someone who contributed something outstanding to the food and drink industry in Greater Manchester over the last 16 years. There will be no shortlist for this category and you may not nominate yourself, but you can nominate your fellow industry peers who you think deserve this level of recognition. Next step
To nominate yourself for an award simply send max 200 words to [email protected] stating which catergory/ categories you want to be nominated for and why. Please feel free to send further supporting evidence along with your nomination.
Self nomination closes on the 29th July.
Please note:
• Nominating yourself does not guarantee your places in the shortlist, it is simply a chance to make case to the judges and highlight why you think you deserve the recognition. The judges decisions are final.
• If you miss the self-nomination process you may still be shortlisted if the judges themselves have put you forward.
• The judging panel consists of food and drink experts and critics from the region.
• The nominees will be announced week commencing 29th August, and winners are decided via a scoring system made up of a weighting between public vote and the judges scoring at mystery shopping.The winners will be announced at the MFDF Gala Dinner and Awards taking place on 7th October.
